With just a few days left in 2018, it is a perfect time for reflection and revisit favorites as we get ready to wave goodbye to one year and welcome the next.
As she does each year, Cheryl @Meadow Mist Designs is hosting a Best of 2018 link-up to highlight our 5 best blog posts of 2018. (For reference my posts for 2017 and 2016).
This is my 147th post of the year (who knew!) Since we can define what best means for this link-up, I decided to share my:
- most frequently blogged about quilt
- post with most comments
- most popular tutorial
- most anticipated QAL
- most popular post
In my recent post - Reflections of 2018 and goals for 2019 (post here), I shared Perfectly Imperfect - my most frequently blogged about quilt with at least 8 blog posts! (This quilt is also my best and favorite quilt of the year as well.) I enjoyed sharing the journey of my discovery of hand-piecing through my blog starting with the very first post in April with my first block.
It was fun looking to see which blog post generated the most comments. I had almost forgotten about my Valentine's fabric postcard tutorial share as part of the Put A Little Love in It blog hop. That post had 60 wonderful comments. (And while 60 comments on a post is wonderful, I truly appreciate those people who comment on almost every post. I've made some nice blogging friends that way.)
My most popular tutorial post is How to Make a Temperature Quilt. With just a few days left in the year, my 2018 quilt is almost complete. (Can't wait to share the final and then turn it into a wall hanging.) I am going to be making another for 2019 although not out of hexies.
I've run a QAL each year for several years and the Hand Pieced QAL which kickoffs on January 7 is the my most anticipated based on the number of people who have joined the QAL email list as well as the Facebook Group.
As I was hand-piecing Perfectly Imperfect, I knew that I wanted to immediately start hand-piecing another quilt and to share my love for this new technique with others through the blog. I'm so happy to be sharing the fun with Kristin from Simple Handmade Everyday
I hope you'll join us. It will be a perfect QAL for beginners or the more experienced. In preparation for the QAL, we've put together a number of tutorials on the basics to help everyone get started!
Finally, my most popular posts are the link-ups associated with One Monthly Goal. (If you haven't participated in One Monthly Goal, check out the sponsor announcement for 2019 and give it a try!)
Goals for a given month need to be something associated with making with thread, fabric or yarn. You don't need to actually finish a project each month - for example, you could have a goal to make ten blocks from a project along. I love reading about what everyone else is doing as well as setting a goal for myself each month.
Above are all photos of my goals each month. I used OMG to make some Christmas gifts, hand quilt my hexie pilllow, finish my QuiltCon challenge quilt plus 6 other quilts!
Have a wonderful 2019! Happy New Year!
Have a wonderful day! Patty
It has been a treat to follow along with your hand piecing, hand quilting, and temperature quilts this year; they are definitely what come to mind as a recap as well. I look forward to seeing what 2019 has in store for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder -- I need to make a plan for my temperature quilt. Yikes....
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt Perfectly Imperfect. It's just gorgeous. You have had a wonderful year and given a lot to the quilting community at the same time. I'm looking forward to the hand piecing quilt along.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful recap of such an impressive year. A blog post every two days or so... I would not have guessed. I loved following you and especially the progress of "Perfectly Imperfect" and I am looking forward to seeing your concept for the new temperature quilt. Good luck with your QAL!
ReplyDeletePS: I have always wanted to ask: And though this is not the perfect post for it, I hope you don't mind. Do I have to pick a project for a goal? That is what always through me off the times I tried. I would rather pick a more abstract goal like "finish one of the FAL projects" and then see where the month takes me...
Well done on your quilty year & although I don't comment often, I love reading your blog. I'll admit to your 2019 goals being quite similar to mine & look forward to seeing what you achieve. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed watching your projects some together this year. I love the temperature quilt! Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed following all you have done. It brought a smile to my face when I saw you were hand piecing as that is how I started my quilting journey back in the day.
ReplyDeleteYou've had a busy year, just keeping OMG going has to take some time out of your stitching. How cool that you learned a new skill and even finished a quilt using it. Perfectly Imperfect turned out beautifully.
