O' Christmas Tree

O'Christmas Tree is my latest finish - adding to the already large pile I have of quilt holiday decorations.  It was a quilt make - downsized the pinwheel blocks to 3'' finished.

One thing that happened with this quilt that happens to me too often - despite being careful - I ended up using two different background fabrics.  You may not have noticed if I hadn't just told you.  Does this happen to you?  If not, what tips do you have for me to avoid this?

The tutorial for this awesome tree is from Missouri Star Quilt Company - I just love Jenny.

Have a wonderful day! Patty

  1. I have definitely had some Kona White / Kona Snow combinations happen to me before. When working with scraps, I try to wait for good daylight to evaluate my scraps in natural light... if I can. :)

  4. It's really hard to tell that there are two fabrics. I'm careful to group my pieces for each project in it's own drawer and I pin them to what they go to. That helps me not mix up the parts between quilts.

  5. Beautiful! And, yes, I have done the same thing with my background fabric. I used white on white snowflakes for a little quilt and didn't notice the difference until it was all pieced. So I just pretended that this was the plan, LOL!

  6. I would have no idea that you used more than one background fabric if you had not "let the cat out of the bag." When I start a quilt, I put all the fabrics for that quilt in a cardboard box for that project. Then I know that all the background fabric is in that box. When I work on that project, I use just that box. I sometimes buy an entire bolt of a background fabric such as as a white. I will NOT use any fabric from that bolt until I finish that quilt even if I know that there is extra fabric because I do not know how much extra. It can be tempting and I mean very tempting. However, I know that I could possible take more than is needed for the current project and then I have the situation of then having the two background fabric. And, if I didn't quite take enough, it could end up with having two quilts in that situation. So, I just excercise my willpower and don't allow myself to do it. The quilt is beautiful and a great addition to your Christmas quilts. Thanks for sharing with all of us.

  8. I can't tell. The background looks great to me. It's such a pretty quilt. I liked her chevron quilt, but liked this version so much more. You are so fast to get it done already! Your link isn't working for me but I remember seeing it on her website and found a youtube for cutting it down too.
