First visit to North Carolina? Let me take you on a tour!
I found my way to the beautiful state of North Carolina almost 22 years ago when a desire to live in a place with decent commute times, great childcare options and a warmer climate moved us south from upstate New York.
I grew up in New Jersey and all my family still lives in the state so a piece of my heart belongs to Jersey - but it is North Carolina that I call home.
We live in the middle of the state not too far from Raleigh, the state capital. Raleigh has a few tall buildings, just a few compared to other big cities, and I've captured those in a silhouette in the center of my quilt row.
To the east, there are the beautiful beaches of North Carolina called the Outer Banks, anchored by a series of lighthouses. Cape Hatteras is the most famous.

From beaches to mountains to our very own barn quilt trail and the famous potters of Seagrove, there are so many reasons to love North Carolina.
If you call North Carolina home, you'll enjoy creating your very own North Carolina Home table runner or incorporate it as a row into a bigger quilt. It measures 40 1/2 x 12 1/2 '' (unfinished).
The pattern is applique.
Trace all of your shapes inside the larger North Carolina shape, leaving about 1/2 '' outline around the edge.
This way, you don't get a lot of bulk in your row and you also save a bit of the fusible adhesive for another day.
I found the whole process of cutting out the shapes to be quite enjoyable. I used my stash of American Made Brand solids for all but the actual state shape.
You can use North Carolina Home as a row in a bigger quilt of make a table runner like I did.

ReplyDeleteAw, I love all about it. It's great living in a state that has so much natural beauty and variety, huh? Utah has much of NC, but drier generally, and no beaches (unless you count the beach of the Great Salt Lake and numerous lakes and reservoirs). I love driving 5 minutes and being up the canyon, in the mountains.

ReplyDeleteGreetings from NY state the home of the R-by-R. Is this pattern from this year’s Row by Row? It is not be available until Nov 1 2016. We have until then to make up a quilt with 8 rows. Now I could make a quilt with 7 rows I picked up and this one if it is from this summer. Please do not use it until after Nov and remember the rules next year.

ReplyDeleteThat is such a pretty row! I love that it is not too cluttered--somehow (and you may know how you figured this out), you included just the right amount of details, so that it feels "homey", not sparse, not crowded. Very appealing.
