Bags and Scraps

Are you finding that sewing something (anything) helps take away the stress of our current situation?  And also that motivation to sew might be lacking?

Me too.

I've been dealing with these feelings by digging through my stash and using scraps which are too pretty to throw out but too small for quilts.

The two smaller bags are simple zipped ones (my tutorial).  I did a quilt as you go technique directly on a scrap piece of fusible fleece.  The larger one is the dumpling pouch from Sew Sweetness in the medium size.

Scraps are also good for mini quilts - this each measure 4'' x 4''!

I've got more scraps and am thinking I'll make more of the smaller zip bags and some more minis!

Back in February, I made myself a Zip-Up Tray Pouch by Aneela Hoey (see that post) .  I hadn't yet shared the second one I made for my friend and QuiltCon roommate Paige.

She immediately put it to use and nicely captured these photos for me since I had forgotten to take any myself.

I've made yet a third version but haven't yet gifted it so no photos yet!

Have a wonderful day! Patty

  3. Patty, I love the zip-tray! Thank you! I especially like that when it is open, you can easily see everything inside. The light colored interior helps too! It got a little crushed traveling in my backpack while flying home. Thank you!

  4. The colors are so perfect for Paige, what a lovely gift! Yes, having something small to work on has helped immensely right now. Your scraps are making wonderful bags.

  5. These are such fun and bright little projects. I think these are a good way to get the 'sewjo' back (for those of us who've lost it lately). Happy Sewing x

  8. These are so inspiring! I’m digging through my stash and found my very small collection of scraps. I really like your mini quilt with the skinny stripes.

  9. Great ideas and love the little mini quilts. Will make a few for my office ... so have some real souvenirs from our confinement ... and a clean desk. Will make some for my colleagues as well. With black they can be more masculine style.

  10. Great use of scraps and lovely results. I'd go digging in my own scraps, you've inspired me so, except they're still packed from our recent move. Also why I haven't been able to participate in OMG the last couple of months. (Previously posted as Beth in MS)
