In October 2017, I had the opportunity to take a class in improv from Michelle Wilke from Factotum of Arts. I created a whole bunch of blocks in the class and they hung out on my design wall for awhile (like over a year!)
Once I assembled the quilt top (of which I can't seem to find a single photo pre-quilting), it sat again for months until I was ready to quilt. I decided on a mixture of hand quilting and walking foot quilting.
The result?
Yummy texture!
I used a several different threads while quilting - some from Superior Threads, some from Aurifil along with Sulky for the hand quilting.
The quilt finishes roughly 24'' x 17''.
Have a wonderful day!
Patty
I enjoyed seeing how you put all those different blocks together, Patty! The quilting is wonderful, too. I really like the addition of the hand quilting in contrasting colors!
ReplyDeleteWow!! I really like this one and all the details you added to it!!
ReplyDeleteI love this and all the different styles of quilting really work! Congrats on the finish!
ReplyDeleteLove the contrast between the blocks on the design wall and the finished piece. the contrast colour really highlights the different blocks. One lovely piece!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the way this went together. I particularly like the hand quilting you added. It creates definition that is not possible with machine stitching.
ReplyDeleteLove it. So many gorgeous stitching details
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I also have blocks hanging out on my design wall for months. Congratulations on getting this one done!
ReplyDeleteI, ttoo, like the addition of the hand quilting. It’s fantastic!
ReplyDeleteInteresting effect of doing both machine and hand quilting. I like it!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful - worth the wait when it turns out so wonderfully!

It looks great. Kudos on finished an UFO.
ReplyDeleteSuch a contrast between this project and your last project. Black and white versus bold colors, very precise versus the improve blocks. Congrats on two great finishes.
