Welcome to my stop on the blog hop for the fabulous book Text It! - Quilts and Pillows with Something to Say by Sheri Noel.(Make sure you visit Sheri's blog for the overall blog hop schedule and her post for today!)
I was lucky to get an early digital copy of the book. If you want to express yourself through your quilts and projects with words, this book is for you! The projects are fun and colorful and the book offers all different techniques for adding text to your projects including 7 different fonts of letters, numbers and symbols.
I had so much fun that I made two projects!!
Welcome Home is a wall-hanging, 18'' x 13'', which will be placed on the wall in our mud room so I'll see it everyday when I get home!
I used up scraps from my collection of Alison Glass fabric for the houses an then choose to stitch the words "welcome home". I quilted with straight lines roughly 1/4'' apart and applied a facing instead of a binding. I really love how this turned out!
Once that was done, I really wanted to play with applying a word from bias tape so I made a pillow for Mom as a gift. She loves it!
While 1/4'' bias tape is a bit finicky to apply, I really, really love the way it looks and will be using this technique to add text to my projects in the future.

ReplyDeleteI've been toying with the idea of making a wall-hanging for my living room with handmade embroidered on it. I have very few photos hanging in my home, so I think a little soft handwork would be great to fill in those gaps.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I just got back from a trip to Europe. I bought some fabric in Amsterdam. It is black and white Dutch houses. I want to make a pillow cover and have been thinking about a clever way to do one and maybe incorporate a bit of red. You have given me a good idea to use the Welcome Home words. ReplyDeleteMy motto has always been, “keep it simple”, even before I knew it was my motto, lol! I’ve always intended to use it on a quilted piece. Love your project choices. I worked with 1/4” bias tape for the first time this winter. At first, I said, “nope, this isn’t for me”, Bit I stuck with it, and it became easier and easier. Thanks for the give away! XO

ReplyDeleteYour Welcome/Houses project turned out super nice - and the horizontal quilting really finished it! I think my own phrase would be “Never give up” - I live in the US (in a deep snow cover now but we will “Never give up” that Spring is on the way!)

ReplyDeleteI choose "Hello Sunshine!". Hope there is an exclamation point because I feel that one is appropriate given the long, cold, snowy, overcast winter we've had. My pillow would have a Dresden plate of oranges and yellows in the center with the letters above and below it. Your bias tape lettering was great.
