Both Halves of a Mobius

Isn't this amazing?!

I love a good foundation paper piecing project and am a major fan of Audrey @cottonandburbon. She has several patterns available and this one - the Mobius Radial pattern - is my favorite.

The pattern instructions are very clear - complex but clear. I spread the construction out over several days and used lots of pins during the assembly process.

Before removing the foundation paper, it was important to mark where the registration marks were so the pieces would align correctly during assembly. I used a basting pin instead of a straight pin or a marking pen and it worked out great.

I left the basting pins in and just added many, many straight pins around them, only removing them right before I was going to sew that area. That way, if I needed to reset, my marks were still there.

The final step is to inset the mobius into a large circle. My piece still needs a good pressing to flatten out some 'bumpy bits' but overall I was really impressed on how the registration marks made the inset process go well.

A friend shared a rainbow version in our last guild meeting - it was gorgeous and may just tempt me to make another!

Now onto the quilting!

Have a wonderful day! Patty

  1. Fantastic; and seeing a rainbow version would probably tempt me into making a second version as well!

  2. This is incredible! I would never, ever attempt anything like this myself but it's so interesting to see the process.

  4. That looks wonderful. The mobius concept has always interested me, mathematically, and now it's artistic as well. Great job!

  7. Audrey is a very good designer, isn't she? And apparently a good pattern-writer too. Your piece turned out so well, and I love the depth you've achieved with only two colors. Precision piecing seems to be what this design needed, and you definitely accomplished that with the care you too. I hope the quilting part is enjoyable too.
