The latest issue of Curated Quilts had a wonderful article on making Kawandi quilts. Kawandi quilts are assembled from the outer edge in by tuning over the edges of scrap fabric and stitching down by hand.
I decided to give the project a try and put to work a bunch of precious scraps saved from several quilts made with fabric by Alison Glass and a light blue solid for the backing.

My plan is to use several colors of thread through the project, starting with this blue.
Texture is what this quilt is all about. It is such a pleasure to sit and stitch - perfect for the back porch on a summer day.

I don't think you can go wrong working with the bright, happy Alison Glass prints. Looks like this will be a fun handwork project!
ReplyDeleteI don't have that issue of the magazine, but in case it wasn't mentioned in the article, this YouTube video was extremely helpful to me in undertstanding Kawandi. I had fun creating my first project and will likely do another. It IS very relaxing!

ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so glad you're giving Kawandi a go! Isn't it fun? Just seeing you working on it makes me want to start another (number 10!). :-) In fact, I will be starting two Kawandi in the near future. I've been asked to demo it to CFMQG members, and want to have one just started, and another further along, so as to explain the process. And it will be a great opportunity to show off those I still own (many given away). Yours will be so colorful! Keep enjoying it!
