I've got a new quilt flimsy!
Fat Quarter Shop asked if I'd like to sew up one of their short cut layer cake patterns - this is called Layer Cake Spools! You can download the free pattern here and checkout the tutorial video!
The pattern contains instructions for 3 different sizes. I went with something slightly smaller - ~ 45 x 60 - but may go back and add one more column before quilting. I'm thinking this one will be a gift!
I really love the fabric - Ruby Star Society Hole Punch Dot. (affiliate link) The colors are beautiful and it was tough choosing which ones to use in the quilt! (One more column means I get to choose 4 more colors!)
One of my favorite things to do is chain piece so I enjoyed the sewing process. Each 1/4 spool block was 8" unfinished. The pattern called for a bit more trimming than I'm used to but it went together quickly. I choose to press my seams flat.
For the layout, I chose to bring all the color together but a more scrappy layout would have been really fun too.
Fat Quarter Shop will have a kit available in August - subscribe to the listing to get notified when it is available!
A picnic at our local park gave me some great photo shoot locations! Want to make one of your very own - you can download the free pattern here and checkout the tutorial video!
Very nice! How great to be invited to make a pattern. Will your review and/or quilt be available to see on the Fat Quarter Shop website? What will they do with what you made? I've never made a quilt using only a line or collection of fabrics, unless it's been solids, but I can see the appeal of doing that. Fabrics already go together, so that makes choosing a little easier. Those "Hole Punch Dots" prints are pretty! Will you be quilting it yourself?
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely pattern. It’ll be fun to see how large you make it and how you quilt it! 😉
