I made my very first successful bias tape applique project!
The pattern is Airshow and was part of a workshop taught by Latifah Saafir hosted by my local Modern Quilt guild.
Latifah is such a wonderful instructor. She was patient, personable, knowledgable and encouraging. She bailed me out at the ironing board when I couldn't quite get the technique down of making the actual bias tape.
When it came time to demo the step of sewing down the bias tape, my machine was ready to go and threaded so she actually did some of my first loop as part of her demo!
(I love my Janome 3160 - it is so portable and lightweight as compared to my regular Janome 6600.*)
My project is going to be a pillow. (I am really into pillows right now!) I've not yet decided how to quilt this. I may go with straight lines and then add some FMQ in some places. The real question is whether to do something special in the loops or just treat the whole piece the same.
If you ever have the opportunity to take a class from Latifah, do so! She is the best. (Her dress looked so good - she made it with her own fabric!)

I love bias tape and the bias tape makers - tools are the best for these kinds of things. It is so much fun to use bias tape that you make. It will be so lovely as a pillow.
