My Second Quarry Tote

Noodlehead's latest pattern is called the Quarry Tote. I really enjoy her patterns and after finishing the large version of this bag - see that bag - I wanted a small another for everyday use. The fabric is a cotton/linen called In the Dawn by Figo fabrics and was purchased at QuiltCon Phoenix.

There is an inset pocket inside. As it turns out, this is the 3rd bag I've made that needs a 1" crossbody strap so I didn't have to make one and just move the one strap to the the bag I'm using that day.

This linen was a bit lighter weight than the cotton/linen canvas used for my first bag. Unfortionately, that didn't dawn on me until the bag was all assembled. Initially I used a singlelayer of fusible fleece but after the bag was all done, inserted a second. (And, yes, this is a messy process but it isn't the first time I've done this!)

I've been busy working on quilts for QuiltCon submission and have been using bag making as a 'reward' for getting something done on the quilts.

Bees Blocks (August and September)

I am a member of the @unscriptedquiltsbee and have enjoyed the monthly challenges from fellow bee mates.

For August, Emily asked for a block pulling a color palette from a painting of Central Park. You were to pick one colorway for the center and then surround it with another colorway. (above)

For September, Chris asked for basic shapes in highly saturated colors with the inclusion of Kona Pickle. (There is a lot of pickle in these blocks - such a fun color!)

Each month has been a really fun challenge. The blocks for May block are in the upper right, the April block is in the lower left and the March is bottom right.

Isn't it fun how different they are?

There are a total of eleven members of the bee. My month was June - you can see all the blocks sent to me here.

My New Crochet Project

After finishing my granny square blanket back in July, I decided to embrace the granny square and make a sweater! To get started on this project, you start like a regular granny square except  you make a hexagon - 6 corners instead of 4.

And then you go around and around and around until you get the the sleeve the width you want. And then you make another one!

There have been several false starts and frogging happened. At one point, I ended up with essentially a mobius strip (don't ask). I am busy working on the second side so that it is the same size as the first. I don't know how long I want to sweater to be but I do want long sleeves that taper.

I am loosely following this tutorial to create the sweater. The yarn comes from Purl Soho in the colorway Heirloom White.

Middle Row:  @ellynz, @bysarahruiz, @elizabethkray,, and @jenngeorgeburt
Bottom Row: @scarf.mama ,@feltlikesweets, and @eacox24

Happy mail again! All the blocks have arrived from my @unscriptedquiltsbee bee mates. Aren't they just wonderful?!!

This is my first experience with being part of a bee. I've enjoyed the making of blocks monthly along with the sending out the prompt and receiving all the happy mail. My month was June and my prompt was Balance and bee members were sent a color palette and a FQ of Painter's Palette Blackberry for the background.

At this point, the quilt top is actually assembled and quilting is underway. I can't wait to share once the quilt is complete!

Have a wonderful day! Patty
