Christmas Holly

My final large quilt finish for the year - Christmas Holly!

This is my Splendid Sampler quilt top, blocks made every week of 2016 during the QAL.  Several of these blocks introduced new to me techniques.  I really love the variety in this sampler.

I wanted to challenge myself to improve my FMQ and decided to tackle this quilt block by block.  In some blocks, I custom quilted to emphasize the block itself.  Other blocks were done in an all over swirl or meander.

The backing fabric (which I didn't seem to take a picture of) was gifted to me from a guild friend who was moving out of the area.  It is a perfect fabric with some lovely red stripes (I used it for a binding here.)

The fabric was from a Fat 8th bundle of a Christmas line designed by Sandy Gervais from Moda.  I really love all the colors.

My warmest wishes for a wonderful Christmas.  I hope Santa brings you wonderful times with family and friends and maybe, perhaps, some fabric!

(I knitted this Santa in 1982 or 83.  He comes out to visit every December.)

I'll be linking up my quilt with  Freemotion by the River,   WIP Wednesday's,  Let's Bee SocialMidweek Makers.  Needle and Thread Thursdays, Finish it Up Friday and Finished or Not Friday. Also linked up at the SS Finish Gallery.

Have a wonderful day! Patty

  10. A very pretty finish! Congrats on a lovely quilt and on taking the time to work on your skills. So often I want to do that and then give in as the "get it done" demon seems to rear it's ugly head and demand "just get er done!"
