Piles of HSTs

Mountains of HSTs waiting to be trimmed.  Aren't they pretty?  These are all from Alison Glass's Sunprint 2018 fabric line paired with a dark gray solid from Paintbrush Studio's.   There are 288 of them in this pile.

I've got a guild retreat coming up in early March so hope to get them trimmed up and ready to sew into blocks at the retreat.   I am still debating my overall finished quilt size and will likely more.

I'll be making this block.

I made these using the 2 at a time method and decided to cut them apart with scissors while watching the Season Finale of Star Trek Discovery.

Hmm, maybe not the best idea.

I've got about 8 that were miss-cut.  Since I always cut large and then trim, I'm hoping some of these can be salvaged with another seam.

Live long and prosper.

Have a wonderful day! Patty

  2. Delightful prints and colors. They look great with the dark grey. Trimming HSTs is not my favorite thing to do but I've found that's the best way to perfect points.

  4. Love that you are a star trek discovery fan! I have a few episodes on my PVR. I have some alison glass and have not decided how to use them. Great to see how that medium grey works with those prints as I tend towards the lighter shades (eg Kona silver). Thanks for the inspiration.

  5. This is going to be an amazing quilt! Trimming millions of HSTs isn’t so bad if you pace yourself. I especially like the little pile of trimmings after the fact!

  6. Better scissors than a rotary cutter. Might have lost a finger...
Pretty block, especially with that gray background and AG prints.

  7. Love the brights you are working with, those are going to look terrific in the block you've got picked out. Hope you were able to salvage a few of the miscuts.

  9. That's a really cute block. Are you going to use charcoal for all of them. About that scissors trimming though - you aren't supposed to do that while you're actually looking up at the TV!
