Cozy Knitted Blanket

It's done!

I really enjoyed making this lap sized blanket which finished about 36" x 38".  The pattern was a Purl Soho pattern for a small blanket, knit using two strands of yarn on a size 13 needle so that it is extra warm and soft.

The yarn, Plymouth Encore, is a blend of acrylic and wool chosen because it would be washable.  I purchased 2 balls of Light Gray Heather (color 6007) and 6 balls of Dark Wedgewood (color 598).  (affiliate links)    I enjoy using these needles from Clover - bamboo tips feel nice to hold in your hands.

The blanket was knit on the diagonal and it was interesting to see how the corners developed.  There were about a gazillion stitches on the needles at the widest point.

I've got the blanket blocking right now to square things up.  Then I can wrap and get it in the mail.

Have a wonderful day! Patty

  1. I don't know why this popped into my head, but this would be a really fun pattern to make in Harry Potter house colors. :)

  2. Love this afghan! That looks like a nice blend of fibers...I am make hats for my nieces but don't like the yarn. I will look this one up!

  3. It's lovely, Patty! Surprisingly, the softness/thickness of this afghan really shows in your photos. I like the concept of knitting on the diagonal, though I can sure imagine the gazillion stitches on the needles at the widest point! Interesting that my favorite knitted dishcloth pattern is the same - knitted at a diagonal - but with only 43 stitches at the widest point. :-) How nice that you're sending this afghan to someone else! I hope they appreciate all the time and love you put into it.

Thanks for visiting Elm Street Quilts. Looking forward to hearing from you!
