Recently I found myself with a bit of quilting low mojo. I wanted to make something but once I finished my Range Backpack, there weren't any projects that were calling my name. I was gifted with a FQ bundle of Kona blues and decided to make something with them.
With no particular plan in mind, I cut up half of each FQ and started making drunkard's path blocks. I've got them on the floor right now (my design wall is full!) is what is likely not the final layout.
I gave myself a constraint for the quilt - the quilt top and the binding had to come all from the FQ bundle - no fabric could be purchased.
But with a few more blocks still to sew from the FQ halves, I'm thinking it needs a bit of orange. I've got a few shades sitting in my stash but this is my favorite so far.
What do you think? Should I add a bit or orange?
I think a hit of orange would be a great addition! Go for it!
ReplyDeleteOrange is the new neutral! I'd go bolder. Maybe use it as a thin/piping half-way through just a couple of the block intersections?
ReplyDeleteI think that keeping the blues to the FQ bundle is a great idea, and the pop of orange would be super delightful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as is, but yes a bit of orange would be nice. Lime green would work too!
ReplyDeleteYes I think a pop of orange will add fresh zestiness to the blues :)
ReplyDeleteI am not an orange lover, but I could definitely see adding a bit to this top. If you make a block and don't like it, no harm no foul.
ReplyDeleteA bit of orange will pop and add interest. So yes, add the orange! ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteYes!!! The answer is always yes to orange. ☺ Your blocks look great.
ReplyDeleteI love the pop of orange. But it might also depend on what you want to do with the quilt... any recipient in mind? I think it would be more bold and modern, the other a very calm option... Both will be great! xo
ReplyDeleteOy yes, a little orange would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteUhhh, it absolutely needs some orange!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a nice feeling to be "between projects," and be able to choose to work on what you wish? Ahh. I love that feeling! You picked a good one to make, as I too like to limit myself (challenge myself) to making something within some parameters. Yes, you absolutely MUST add orange to this design. Orange goes with everything, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteyou might consider something that is a hue of orange, not plain orange--perhaps a rust or even something more gold or maybe a reddish orange---alternatey you might look at the analagous colors---a yellow green or maybe a purply red----I would not just try out the traditional complement in the same value range---a very light orange might work----pick up some paint swatches, make a color copy of your blocks and see what happens with a variety of colors.
