Just finished making the Sandhill Sling by Noodlehead. This is the first time I've tried one of Anna's patterns and it certainly won't be the last The pattern is well written and construction was fun!
I really love the size of the bag. It is perfect when I just want to carry a few items. The canvas gives it great structure. There is a zipper pocket on the outside of the bag and a nice pocket on the inside.
Canvas was ordered online and was a bit darker than expected. Frankly, at first I was disappointed by now I am just in love. Its a perfect color for what I want to use it for. That said, I can see myself making another in a very different color!
I optionally added the tabs on each side of the bottom of the bag so I can adjust it depending on whether I wear it on my left or right side.
Supplies were all ordered online. One package took an extra week to arrive after going on a grand tour of North Carolina.
When I showed the bag to my daughter, she really liked it. It wasn't until she opened it up and looked inside to see a familiar fabric that she looked up in disbelief that I had made it!
Outside fabric is Robert Kaufman Big Sur Canvas - Dark Grey. Lining fabric is from the Quantum line by Giucy Giuce . Metal tag on the zipper flap was purchased at QuiltCon.
You can find out more information about the pattern on Noodlehead's site.
Wow! I love the and will be checking out the pattern. ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteStunning! What kinds of adjustments to your machine do you have to make when sewing with canvas? I realize you'd use a different needle and thread (how heavy?), but what about thread and presser foot tension? I've got some canvas and haven't dipped my toe into the water with sewing anything with it yet. You're a much more experienced seamstress, so maybe you can give some pointers? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt is a very nice bag indeed! I have made Noodlehead patterns before, but when I saw she had this one, I thought it looked too small. But in looking at yours, it does seem like a great size for sure.
ReplyDeleteLove this bag! I really need to go on a bag making extravaganza. There are some mysterious "glitches" in the delivery system right now. We had a shirt go from ME to CT to MA to ME to get delivered...crazy.
ReplyDeleteI am laughing at your daughter's disbelief! Love this bag. I've used Noodlehead patterns and they are well written.
ReplyDeleteThis is inspiring! I have been looking at the pattern and to hear your experience with it makes me think I would like to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is super professional looking--and it looks so perfect for use! I can think of so many times this would be the perfect bag!
ReplyDeleteWell done. It's amazing. I'm working on the Redwood Tote right now. Had to stop to get a zipper.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool & you are so clever to make it look very professional. Well done. Take care & stay safe.
