After finishing my granny square blanket back in July, I decided to embrace the granny square and make a sweater! To get started on this project, you start like a regular granny square except you make a hexagon - 6 corners instead of 4.
And then you go around and around and around until you get the the sleeve the width you want. And then you make another one!
There have been several false starts and frogging happened. At one point, I ended up with essentially a mobius strip (don't ask). I am busy working on the second side so that it is the same size as the first. I don't know how long I want to sweater to be but I do want long sleeves that taper.
I am loosely following this tutorial to create the sweater. The yarn comes from Purl Soho in the colorway Heirloom White.
I'm getting into the crochet craze too! Looks like you'll have a beautiful top to wear, when you're done. The yarn is lovely. And I sure get that frogging thing! I'm crocheting 4-1/2" squares that will all be joined for a "lacy motif" top. It's tough working out all the lingo - Tr2, hdc, and CL3. I'm having to learn them as I go. Maybe I'll finally make the second of 65 needed squares! By the way, I'm making mine with an off-white yarn, just as you are. Mine is Bernat Softee.
ReplyDeleteI started teaching myself how to crochet in 1972. I started with a doily, lol. I would stitch until I messed up, cut the thread (I was using a steel hook and very thin crochet thread) and start over. I did that several times, stitch, mess up and start over. I still have the messed up pieces. I did finish the doily and it turned out beautifully. Hang in there 😊
